Event Preview: Meet the Drivers Night, August 17th

WHEELERSBURG, OH-It’s hard to believe, but the night of Meet the Drivers Night and the Season Championships is already here.  This Friday, August 17th will be Meet the Drivers Night and also the final points race of the 2012 season.  On the racing card this week will be Late Models-$2,000 to win, Jordan Heating & Cooling UMP Modifieds-$600 to win, Street Stocks-$400 to win, GCP Engines Sport Mods-Regular Purse, and Classic Cars-Regular Purse.

Meet the Drivers Night Activities
One of the coolest things all season is the Meet the Drivers Night Activities.  During intermission, the track will bring all of the cars out on the front stretch and allow the fans to come out on the track for a 30 minute meet and greet session with the drivers.  This is an excellent opportunity for the race fans to get to meet all of their favorite drivers without having to purchase a pit pass.

Late Model Preview
The last Late Model race held at SOS back on August 3rd was one of the most exciting races held at SOS this season as Jackie Boggs held off Steve Lucas and R. J. Conley to take the feature win.  With the new track prep procedures in place the racing at SOS has been off the hook the last two weeks and is expected to great again this Friday.  It is the last points race of the season Friday in the Late Model division.  Eddie Carrier Jr. has already clinched the track championship but there are still lots of positions up for grabs as the drivers battle for top three, top five, and top ten points finishes.  With only two Late Model races remaining on the schedule, there is a big sense of urgency for drivers looking to claim their first feature wins of the season at SOS.

Jordan Heating & Cooling UMP Modified Preview
Jeremy Rayburn has already clinched the track championship, but Rayburn will be looking to end the points chase with his seventh feature win of the year.  “Fast” Eddie Harmon will also be continuing momentum into Friday as he has a win and a second in his last two races.  Top runner Eric Hatfield has been strong all year and will be a driver looking to get an SOS feature win before the season is over.  18 year old Luke Jordan has been fast all season and will also be looking to get into victory lane.  It should be an excellent show on Friday in the Jordan Heating & Cooling UMP Modifieds.

Street Stock Preview
The big battle on Friday will be for the track championship in the Street Stock division.  Conard Newman currently holds a narrow five point advantage over Tim Cutler in the track championship battle.  If Newman finishes in front of Cutler he clinches the track championship.  Cutler can clinch the track championship under two scenarios.  Cutler can clinch by winning the feature or by finishing two positions ahead of Newman.  It is sure to be an excellent show in the Street Stock division on Friday.

GCP Engines Sport Mod Preview
Despite being in a scary crash last Friday, Eric Dennision was still able to clinch the track championship in the GCP Engines Sport Mod division.  Dennison has been the man to beat in the class all season long with more feature wins than any other driver.  Just like in the other divisions, several great drivers have still not visited victory lane but will be racing hard on Friday as the number of races left in the season begins to wind down.

Classic Car Preview
It should be a great show on Friday in the Classic Car division.  The Classic Cars put on a lot of great racing each week and this Friday should be no different.  Terry “Chumpy” Brumfield will be looking for his third feature win in a row.
