WHEELERSBURG, OH-The Southern Ohio Speedway is proud to announce an addition to the 2012 schedule, “Fall Family Fun Night” on Saturday, September 29th. The racing card will feature Steel Block Late Models, Jordan Heating & Cooling UMP Modifieds, GCP Engines Sport Mods, and Street Stocks. The Street Stock division has now been put on the Sport Mod/Classic Car car count based purse structure while the other three classes will be running for regular purses. In an effort to make for a very affordable night of racing for the fans, the track has dropped general admission prices on all age categories for the September 29th races. General admission is just $8 for ages 17 and up, $4 for ages 13-16, and FREE for ages 12 and under. This means that a family of four with two adults, a teenager, and a kid can get into the races for only $20. In today’s economy, there are not very many events that a family of four can go to and spend $20 for four hours of quality entertainment. Pit pass prices will remain the same at $25 for ages 13 and up, $15 for ages 7-12, and free for ages 6 and under.
SOS has held two Steel Block Late Model races since the track was brought back to life by H&L Motorsports, LLC in 2011. John Melvin and Jeff Arnold were the two feature winners. The average car count between those two races was 20. Steel Block Late Models will time trial and run the same format as the regular Late Models do (with the exception of the feature lap count) on September 29th. The class will have a hard tire rule to keep the rules close to Portsmouth Raceway Park. All cars must run Hoosier 1600’s, Hoosier LM 40, Hoosier WRS 55, or American Racer MD 56 on both rear tires. The front tires are open.
The Jordan Heating & Cooling UMP Modifieds, GCP Engines Sport Mods, and Street Stocks have all put on incredible races this season. Jeremy Rayburn leads the feature win total in the UMP Modifieds while Eric Dennison leads the season feature win total in the Sport Mods. The Street Stock division has incredibly not had a repeat winner this season. With all of these classes on hand with the always exciting Steel Block Late Models and an adult general admission price of $8, it should be an excellent night of racing on September 29th.
“We’re really excited about the September 29th races”, stated H&L Motorsports co-owner T. J. Layne. “We originally weren’t scheduled to race on that weekend, but we want to race and wanted to do something where we could put on a good show for the fans and cut general admission prices. With everything going on this time of year and all of the money the fans have already spent going to races over the course of the season, we felt like anything we could do to have a show where we could drop general admission prices would be a great thing. So, we decided on the Fall Family Fun Night and are really excited for what should be a great night of racing.”
Gates will open on Saturday, September 29th at 3:00 pm with hot laps starting the nights on track action at 6:00 pm. Following hot laps the Steel Block Late Models and Jordan Heating & Cooling UMP Modifieds will take to the track for one lap time trials. The night of racing will officially get underway with the heat races starting between 7:00-7:30 pm. The earlier start time was put in place with a goal of having the entire show complete before temperatures get too cold. For more information visit www.southernohiospeedway.com.
