Rain wins on August 9th; Next race September 28th

WHEELERSBURG, OH-After heavy rains early in the morning, it appeared promising that the August 9th races would happen after the weather cleared and the sun began to shine on Friday afternoon.  Unfortunately, that sunshine was quickly erased around 4:15 pm when a heavy storm hit Southern Ohio Speedway, dumping about two inches of rain in 30 minutes.  This forced SOS officials to cancel the August 9th races.  The OVSCA 410 Sprint Car portion of the August 9th races will not be rescheduled as a suitable rain date could not be found.

The August 9th races were set to be the final points race for the Modified, GCP Engines Sport Mods, and Pure Stocks.  The Modified points will end with the August 2nd races counting as the last poins race.  However, with the championship still to be decided in the Sport Mod division and several ties within the top five of the Pure Stock points, the September 28th races will count as the last points race for those classes.

The September 28th races will be the next time that on track action will take place at Southern Ohio Speedway.  With high school football season in southern Ohio getting ready to kick off, that unfortunately knocks out racing on Friday nights for the rest of the season, leaving track officials with only selected Saturday’s as possible race dates.  SOS track officials are working on scheduling additional shows this fall.  It is our plans to have additional races for all of our five weekly divisions; Late Models, Modifieds, Sport Mods, Pure Stocks, and Enduros. We hope to announce the remainder of our fall schedule shortly.

September 28th will be a historic night at Southern Ohio Speedway as general admission will be FREE!  That is right, general admission is completely free.  The racing card will feature GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars, Pure Stocks, 4 cylinders, and Enduros.  Sport Mods and Pure Stocks will time trial and will run the dash/heat race format used in the Late Model and Modified divisions.  Another extra element to the show is the intense battle for the Sport Mod track championship that will be decided on this night.  Gates will open at 4:00 pm with hot laps at 6:00 pm.  Pit passes are $25 (ages 13 and up), $15 (ages 7-12), and free (ages 6 and under).

Please stay tuned to the SOS website at www.southernohiospeedway.com for announcements on additional races scheduled for this fall.
