WHEELERSBURG, OH-Although weather may have pushed it back a couple of weeks, the Southern Ohio Speedway is set to go on Saturday, April 19th for Opening Night.  A full, action packed night of racing is in store with Super Late Models-$3,000 to win, Modifieds-$800 to win, GCP Engines Sport Mods, , Pure Stocks, and Enduros at the end of the night.

Super Late Model Preview
Opening Night will feature race #1 in the Road to the Southern 100 and will pay $3,000 to win for Super Late Models.  This will be the first of four $3,000 to win Super Late Model events during the 2014 season.  A great field of Super Late Models is expected to be in attendance as drivers chase after the $3,000 top prize and collect points towards the provisional that will be on the line during the 19th Annual Southern 100 on Friday, May 2nd.

An Opening Night win usually equates to a great year.  Last season, West Union, Ohio’s Danial Kattine took the huge Opening Night win as that set himself up for a great 2013 season.  In 2012, Eddie Carrier Jr. took the Opening Night win on his way to the track championship.  The regions best Super Late Model drivers will be aiming at the Opening Night win on Saturday.

Modified Preview
Just like in the Super Late Model division, an Opening Night win in the Modified division has resulted in a great season in the past.  Last year, Jason Montgomery took the big win and went on to have a great year in both his Late Model and Modified.  In 2012, Jeremy Rayburn took the Opening Night win and went on to win the track championship.

This season, $800 will be on the line in the Modified division.  Last year’s $800 to win Modified events saw great car counts and great racing.  South Point Ohio’s Todd Robinson won the last Modified event in 2013 and will be looking to start off 2014 the same way he ended 2013.

GCP Engines Sport Mod Preview
Excitement is in the year for the GCP Engines Sport Mod season opener on April 11th.  The past two seasons, the Opening Night winner has went on to win the track championship.  A lot of excitement is in the air to see who will come out on top at the end of the night on Friday and a lot of excitement is also circling around the number of new drivers in this division.  Each season, we have came out on Opening Night with a lot of new drivers in the Sport Mod division and 2014 will be no different.  A great season lies ahead for the GCP Engines Sport Mods at SOS and it all gets underway on Saturday.

Pure Stock Preview
A lot of excitement is also circling around the Pure Stock division.  Although car counts weren’t great last season, the racing was excellent as Barry Brisker claimed the inaugural track championship for the division.  2014 will be the second year for the division and with that a lot of new drivers are expected.  Everything is shaping up to be a great season for the Pure Stocks and it all gets started on Saturday.

Enduro Preview
The Enduro division has already had one event at SOS this season, the 1st Annual Spring Thaw Enduro back on March 15th.  In that event, Brad Miller claimed the exciting feature win.  Enduros will race under a new format and payout for regular Enduro shows in 2014.  Enduros will not compete until after the last feature of the night an they will run a 10 minute endurance segment followed by a 10 lap shootout for the win.  Enduros will pay $150 to win and $100 for second.  No passengers will be allowed for Enduro events in 2014.
