WHEELERSBURG, OH-A new era will begin at the Southern Ohio Speedway on Friday, May 16th as the Weekly Racing Series (WRS) Late Models will take to the speedway for their first race of the 2014 season.  The WRS Late Models will be the weekly Late Model division at SOS for the remainder of the season while the Super Late Models will have a special event once a month.

The WRS Late Model division was implemented to bring a more affordable Late Model division to the track for weekly races.  Race fans will see no visible difference between a WRS Late Model and a Super Late Model.  In fact, a good portion of the cars that compete regularly in the Super Late Model division are legal to compete in the WRS division.  The only differences between the two divisions is the WRS Late Models mandate that all cars must run a steel block engine and they run a 1300 or harder tire rule on the rear tires.  Those rule changes decrease the cost to compete and should in turn create very competitive racing.

“We are really excited to kick off the season for the WRS Late Models on May 16th”, stated SOS co-promoter T. J. Layne.  “We have had so much interest in this class.  Drivers are excited because they know they don’t have to have a huge budget to be able to come out and compete for wins in this class.  One local engine builder told me a few weeks ago he has already changed over motors for four different drivers who are wanting to compete in this class.  We’ve also been told of Super Late Model drivers that are going to be fielding a separate car to run in this class.  I really think the race fans will be pleasantly surprised by the number and quality of fields they will see in this class this season.”

The field of cars in the WRS Late Model division this season is already taking shape.   Drivers that are going to be competing in the class this season are strongly encouraged to contact the track at southernohiospeedway@gmail.com or contact T.
