The Late Model division is the premiere class at the Southern Ohio Speedway. These cars weigh only 2,300 pounds and produce over 900 horsepower. The Late Models are the fastest of the weekly classes at SOS and produce exciting racing action week in and week out. The SOS Late Model class draws many of the best racers from Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia on a weekly basis.
The Modifieds are the second fastest of the weekly classes at SOS. The SOS Modified class is one of the most competitive classes at the track and produces some of the most exciting races of the season. These cars weigh 2,400 pounds and make between 700-800 horsepower. The combination of high horsepower and eight inch tires makes a Modified one of the toughest cars in dirt track racing to drive.
GCP Engines Sport Mods
The GCP Engines Sport Mods were introduced to the Southern Ohio region during the 2011 season. The class is expected to be one of the biggest classes at SOS for the 2013 season. The GCP Engines Sport Mods are the most economical of all of the weekly classes at SOS. A Sport Mod is just like a regular Modified except for a stock engine rule, stock transmission rule, and other cost savings rules. This is designed to be a great entry level class and a great class for somebody who wants to compete in a higher division but doesn’t have the budget to race a Late Model or Modified.
The Pure Stock division is a brand new class at Southern Ohio Speedway for the 2013 season. This class is similar to the Bomber class that used to be ran at SOS with the exception being this class is a lot more economical. The goal of this class was to make it to the most economical class at SOS. The Pure Stocks are sure to have lots of great racing and should see good fields of cars once the season gets going.
