WHEELERSBURG, OH-In an effort to provide the drivers with more money, increase car counts, and provide fans with the best shows possible the Southern Ohio Speedway has released a very aggressive revised 2013 schedule. The track will now have one more race in June, two races a month in July and August, and will run 1-2 events in September, October, and November. While the new schedule drops three races from the schedule, purses have been increased as beginning in July all Late Model races on the schedule will pay at least $3,000 to win and Modified races will pay at least $800 to win.

“This is an idea that we have been kicking around for a while now”, stated H&L Motorsports co-owner T. J. Layne. “With the effects the economy has had on car and fan counts for weekly shows this season, we felt like it was best to go ahead and make the move to this type of schedule. Lots of fans and race teams we talk to just can’t afford to go racing two nights a week every week. With this schedule, it takes off a lot of that strain and allows us to pay more money and give the fans what we feel like will be incredible shows each time we open the gates. This also allows us to really bump up our promotions for each event. The racing this season has been so good every week, we are really excited for what the remainder of the 2013 season will hold.”

The Southern Ohio Speedway will be off this Friday, June 21st but will return to action on Friday, June 28th for “Family Fun Night” featuring Steel Block Late Models, Modifieds, GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars, Pure Stocks, and Enduros. Adult general admission will only be $8 for this event. We will also bring all the cars out on the frontstretch during intermission and allow fans to come onto the track and meet their favorite drivers. (We will have a Late Model Meet the Drivers Night on July 19th).

Following the June 28th races, the track will be in action the following week on Friday, July 5th for the second biggest race of the season in the “3rd Annual Southern 50″ paying $6,000 to win for Late Models. Modifieds paying $800 to win, GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars, Pure Stocks, and Enduros will also be on the schedule. The track will be off on July 12th for what was an already scheduled off week but will return on Friday, July 19th for the “Buckeye 30″ paying Late Models $3,000 to win. Modifieds paying $800 to win, GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars, Pure Stocks, and Enduros will also be on the racing card.

The track will be off on Friday, July 26th but resumes action on Friday, August 2nd for the “3rd Annual Hall of Fame Classic” featuring Late Models-$3,000 to win, Modifieds-$800 to win, GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars, Pure Stocks, and Enduros. This will be the last Late Model points race of the season. The track will be in action the following week on Friday, August 9th for the “3rd Annual H&L Motorsports 25″ featuring the OVSCA 410 Sprint Cars. Modifieds-$800 to win, GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars, Pure Stocks, and Enduros will also be on the racing card. Track promoters are currently working on scheduling more events for September and October. Those events will be announced at a later time. The final race of the 2013 season at SOS will be on Saturday, November 11th with the “2nd Annual Fall Havoc Enduro.”

On the weeks that racing action is not scheduled, the track will be available for private test sessions. The cost to schedule a private test is $175 for 2 hours of track time and then $50 for each additional hour. Track officials will water the speedway for each test. To schedule a private test, please email southernohiospeedway@gmail.com. For more information visit www.southernohiospeedway.com.

WHEELERSBURG, OH-The Southern Showdown, the event that kicked off the re-opening of the Southern Ohio Speedway in 2011, returns for the third edition of the race on Friday, June 14th. This year’s Southern Showdown will once again feature a 30 lap, $3,000 to win show for the Late Models. Modifieds will also be running for a special $800 to win and $110 to start purse. GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars and Pure Stocks will also be on the racing schedule.

Late Model Preview
With a winners purse of $3,000 on the line, a great field of Late Models is expected to be in attendance on Friday. In addition to a strong winners purse, the rest of the payback throughout the field is also strong as the 30 lap feature will pay $200 to start and drivers that start the B-Main but do not transfer into the feature will receive $100.

The competition this season in the Late Model division has been wide open as we have had six different winners in six races. Those winners include Danial Kattine, R. J. Conley, Jason Montgomery, Steve Francis, Doug Drown, and Jackie Boggs. Josh McGuire has yet to visit victory lane this season but has two second place finishes. Steve Lucas has also yet to visit SOS victory lane but finished second at the last Late Model race and has looked strong everytime he’s been at SOS. Last year’s track champion Eddie Carrier Jr. has won both Southern Showdowns held at the track. All of these drivers will be favorites heading into Friday.

While the competition has been wide open this season, so has the racing action. All but one Late Model feature this year has seen a lead change. Five of the six Late Model features have seen lead changes in the final ten laps of the feature. Two of the six Late Model features have seen last lap lead changes. The last Late Model special, the Southern 100 Championship, saw six lead changes. It is sure to be a “can’t miss race” on Friday!

Modified Preview
The competition has also been wide open this season in the Modified division. We have seen five different winners in seven Modified races. Last week, last years track champion Jeremy Rayburn visited victory lane for the first time this season as he capped off the hat trick by being fast qualifier, winning his heat race, and winning the feature. This week extra money will be on the line for the Modifieds as they will pay $800 to win and $110 to start. Hanover, Indiana’s Joey Kramer won the last $800 to win Modified show back on May 3rd. It is sure to be a great show on Friday in the Modified division.

GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars
The Sport Mod division is coming off of their second straight special event with the “McGowan Race Parts 20″ that paid $400 to win. It was an exciting race for the entire 20 laps as last years track champion Eric Dennison took the big feature win. Last Friday also saw some new faces in the top five with Todd Brumfield second, fourteen year old Tyler Smith third, and Phil Colley in fifth. Danny Hamilton charged from the tail after a spinout to finish in fourth. It should be another great show on Friday in the Sport Mod division.

Pure Stocks
Barry Brisker has remained dominate in the Pure Stock division, winning all six features. Despite the low car count this season, SOS still remains commited long term for this class

Times and Admission Prices
Gates will open at 4:00 pm on Friday with hot laps at 7:30 pm. General admission is $15 (ages 17 and up), $5 (ages 13-16), $2 (ages 7-12), and free (ages 6 and under). Pit passes are $30 (ages 13 and up), $20 (ages 7-12), and free (ages 6 and under). For more information visit www.southernohiospeedway.com

WHEELERSBURG, OH-It was a perfect day for racing at the Southern Ohio Speedway on Friday, June 7th for the OVSCA 410 Sprint Cars and the McGowan Race Parts 20. A good crowd was on hand to witness what was a wild night of racing on a smooth and fast racing surface.

The nights 25 lap OVSCA 410 Sprint Car feature started with Jim Nier taking the lead. Nier jumped out to a half straightaway lead with Kory Crabtree in second and Jimmy Stinson in third. By lap ten, the leaders began to encounter heavy lapped traffic as this allowed Crabtree to get right up to Nier. Nier and Crabtree then began a side by side battle for the lead with Crabtree making a bold pass through traffic to take the lead! Stinson was also able to catch up to Nier as those two battled side by side for second for several laps. On lap 20, Stinson finally made the pass on Nier for second and set his sights on Crabtree.

Stinson gained ground on Crabtree fast and with two laps to go was right on Crabtree’s tail! Stinson then put his #84 machine up high and was side by side with Crabtree for the lead in turns 3 and 4! Then the whole complexion of the race changed as Rick Fraley hit the wall off of turn four right in front of the leaders leaving Stinson with nowhere to go but into the back of Fraley. This caused the front of Stinsons car to get up in the air and slam the inside guardrail while Fraley went hit the concrete wall hard and then was hit by Adam Strausser who had nowhere to go. This sent Fraley flipping down the frontstretch and sent Strausser airborne into the inside guardrail, collecting Nathan Skaggs in the process. Thankfully, all drivers walked away uninjured from what was a nasty wreck. The wreck brought out a lengthy red flag.

When the race resumed for the green-white-checkered finish, 18 year old Kory Crabtree was able to hold off Jim Nier to take the win! Nier finished second with Josh Davis third, Trey Gustin fourth, and Andre Layfield fifth. Jim Nier was fast qualifier with a lap time of 14.980 at an average speed of 108.14 mph. Nier, Crabtree, and Stinson won heat races.

Lucasville, Ohio’s Jeremy Rayburn took the lead to start the nights Modified A-Main with Doug Adkins in second and Todd Robinson third. Rayburn got out to a big lead as the best race on the track was the side by side battle for third between Robinson and Adam Jordan. On lap 15, the race changed complexion when Adkins exploded a tire, bringing out a caution flag and forcing him to retire from the race. On the restart, Jeremy Rayburn was able to hold off Robinson to claim his first feature win of the season! Robinson finished second with Adam Jordan third, Dave Jamison fourth, and Richie Edwards fifth.

Eric Dennison and Danny Hamilton battled for the lead at the start of the nights “McGowan Race Parts 20″ GCP Engines Sport Mod presented by Tomahawk Race Cars A-Main. Those two had an excellent battle for the lead all race long until Hamilton spun with five laps to go. Dennison was able to hold on the final five laps to take his second feature win of the season! Todd Brumfield finished second with Tyler Smith third, Danny Hamilton fourth, and Phil Colley fifth. Hamilton, Dennison, and Tony Whitt Jr. won heat races.

The Southern Ohio Speedway will be back in action this Friday, June 14th for the “3rd Annual Southern Showdown” featuring a $3,000 to win Late Model show and $800 to win Modified show. GCP Engines Sport Mods and Pure Stocks are also on the racing card. General admission is $15 (ages 17 and up), $5 (ages 13-16, $2 (ages 7-12), and free (ages 6 and under). Pit passes are $30 (ages 13 and up), $20 (ages 7-12), and free (ages 6 and under). For more information visit www.southernohiospeedway.com.

WHEELERSBURG, OH-One of the most popular classes at SOS since the tracks re-opening in 2011 has been the Enduro class. The class offers an extremely affordable way for people to go from the stands to the drivers seat as that is one of the driving factors of the classes success at SOS. The track has now decided to add a weekly Enduro class to the lineup beginning on Friday, June 21st.

The weekly Enduro class will run under the current Enduro car rules package but will be ran more like a normal class would run as opposed to an actual Enduro race. The class will run a 20 lap feature at the end of each race night that will pay $100 to win, $75 for second, and $50 for third. The class will not hot lap and will not run heat races. If the car count is over 20, we will split the field into two 15 lap features that will pay $100 to win, $50 for second, and $25 for third. The class will pill draw for grid starting positions. Starts will be standing starts just like a normal Enduro. No passengers will be allowed. Firesuits and racing helmets will be required. The track will be watered down before the Enduro feature to slow speeds down. Rough driving will be prohibited and stricly enforced. Please note that the car rules have changed to make no SUV’s allowed.

The goal of this class is to have a very affordable class that will be a lot of fun. In the nature of that goal, the race winner will start on the tail of the feature the next race they compete in. The track will also be implementing a full crew, in addition to our weekly walking the track, to clean the track for any debris left after each race night to ensure no debris from the Enduro class would get left over. Anybody with any questions about the class can email their questions to southernohiospeedway@gmail.com.

The track would also like to note that this announcement in no way effects the Pure Stock division. The track is still 100% committed to this class. The Sport Mod class started with two cars and has grown to over 20 cars each week in two years. The track understands that it takes time to grow a class and looks forward to seeing the division grow.

WHEELERSBURG, OH-One of the most anticipated nights of racing this season is this Friday, June 7th at the Southern Ohio Speedway when the stars and cars from the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association (OVSCA) come to SOS. The GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars will also be highlighted with the “McGowan Race Parts 20″ paying the class $400 to win. Modifieds and Pure Stocks will also be on the racing card.

OVSCA 410 Sprint Car Preview
410 Sprint Cars are the fastest machines in all of short track racing. With a weight of 1,350 pounds and close to 900 horsepower, 410 Sprints race at intense speeds with breathtaking side by side racing action. Last season the OVSCA 410 Sprints set a new track record with a lap time of 14.125 at an average speed of 114.69 mph. To compare, the Late Model track record is an average speed just over 102 mph and the Modified track record is an average speed of over 89 mph.

While the speeds are incredible, the racing action is just as intense. Last year’s OVSCA show at SOS saw an incredible battle between veteran Jimmy Stinson and 18 year old Kory Crabtree with Crabtree taking the big feature win. This season, Stinson currently leads the OVSCA point standings while Crabtree sits third. Former AMA Arenacross competitor Nathan Skaggs sits second in points while Dave Dickson is fourth and Josh Davis is fifth. All five of those competitors were at SOS last season and are expected to be top contenders heading into Friday’s show. When you talk 410 Sprints at SOS you also can’t forget about Jim Nier as he has several wins at the facility, including an OVSCA win in August of 2011. It is sure to be an incredible show on Friday.

GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars Preview
It is another huge night for the Sport Mods on Friday as they will battle for $400 to win and increased money through the field in the “McGowan Race Parts 20.” The last Sport Mod race was also a $400 to win special that saw Danny Hamilton take the big win over 25 Sport Mods that were in attendance. Mike Newton put up a strong battle with Hamilton and led several laps before becoming involved in an accident. Newton has a new car ready to go for Friday’s “McGowan Race Parts 20.” For more information on McGowan Race Parts visit www.mcgowanraceparts.com.

Modified Preview
Doug “The Buzzard” Adkins won a very exciting Modified feature the last race on May 24th. Adkins has been fast this year, claiming two feature wins and moving into second in points. Last year’s track champion Jeremy Rayburn finished second the last race and battled for the lead with Adkins all race long. Will Rayburn claim his first victory of 2013 on Friday? Can Adkins win his second feature in a row? How about 2011 track champion Adam Colley? Colley finished third last week and will be chasing his first win of 2013 on Friday. Should be another great show!

Pure Stock Preview
Barry Brisker claimed an impressive fifth victory the last race in the Pure Stock division. Can Brisker remain perfect on the year and win again this Friday?

Times and Admission Prices
Gates will open on Friday at 4:00 pm with hot laps scheduled for 7:30 pm. General admission is $12 for ages 17 and up, $5 for ages 13-16, $2 for ages 7-12, and free for ages 6 and under. Pit passes are $25 for ages 13 and up, $15 for ages 7-12, and free for ages 6 and under. For more information visit www.southernohiospeedway.com.

WHEELERSBURG, OH-A day that started off under sunny skies quickly turned into a bad evening of racing as a big line of thunderstorms was seen on the radar approaching the speedway in the late afternoon. At approximately 7:00 pm with the storms right on the speedway, track officials made the call to go ahead and cancel the races to give people time to clear the facility before the storms hit. About 15-20 minutes after the cancelation, the skies opened up as rain began pouring onto the facility and did so for about an hour.

The Southern Ohio Speedway will be back in action on Friday, June 7th with the OVSCA 410 Sprint Cars. The OVSCA 410 Sprint Cars produce lightning fast speeds as the 410 Sprint track record is at an average speed of over 114 mph. Friday will also be the “McGowan Race Parts 20″ paying the GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars $400 to win. Modifieds and Pure Stocks will also be on the racing card. Gates will open at 4:00 pm with hot laps at 7:30 pm. General admission is $12 (ages 17 and up), $5 ages (13-16), $2 (ages 7-12), and free (ages 6 and under). Pit passes are $25 (ages 13 and up), $15 (ages 7-12), and free (ages 6 and under). For more information visit www.southernohiospeedway.com.

WHEELERSBURG, OH-On the racing card at the Southern Ohio Speedway this Friday, May 31st will be “Fan and Driver Appreciation Night.” The racing card will feature Late Models, Modifieds, GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars, and Pure Stocks. The big thing about this night will be decreased admission prices and giveaways for the fans and drivers. Adult general admission for Friday is only $10 while adult pit passes are only $22. With the exciting racing action that has been seen this season, this is a great deal for the fans.

Fan and Driver Apprecation Night Giveaways
There will be many giveaways for both the fans and drivers on Friday. For the race fans, Bradley Racing Apparrel will be donating four $25 cash prizes that will be given to the fans. The track will also be giving away some one race passes and hats/t-shirts. For the race teams, we will be giving a free pit pass to one driver in each class. All giveaways will be given away by a random draw.

Late Model Preview
The competition this season in the Late Model division has been absolutely incredible. In six Late Model races, we have had six different winners! Those six races have seen a combined total of 11 lead changes. 5 of the 6 Late Model features this year have had lead changes. 2 of the 6 have seen the final lead change occur on the final lap. 5 of the 6 LM features have seen the final lead change occur within the last 10 laps of the race; 3 of those within the final 5 laps.

Grayson, Kentucky’s Jackie Boggs took the feature win last weekend. Can Boggs win his second feature in a row on Friday and become the first repeat winner of the season? Two time track champion R. J. Conley goes into Friday as the current Late Model points leader. Can Conley visit victory lane for the second time this season? How about West Virginia driver Steve Lucas? Lucas led the first 19 laps of last Friday’s A-Main, can Lucas get his first SOS win? We will find out on Friday.

Modified Preview
Doug “The Buzzard” Adkins won a very exciting Modified feature last weekend. Adkins has been fast this year, claiming two feature wins and moving into second in points. Last year’s track champion Jeremy Rayburn finished second on Friday and battled for the lead with Adkins all race long. Will Rayburn claim his first victory of 2013 on Friday? Can Adkins win his second feature in a row? How about 2011 track champion Adam Colley? Colley finished third last week and will be chasing his first win of 2013 on Friday. Should be another great show!

GCP Engines Sport Mod presented by Tomahawk Race Cars Preview
Danny Hamilton claimed his third win of the season last Friday in the Sport Mod division, winning $400 in the “Robinson’s Auto Sales & Parts Sport Mod Championships.” With a second place finish last week, last years track champion Eric Dennison moved up to second in points with Colten Wright third, Josh Tibbs fourth, and Mike Newton in fifth. It was another great feature last Friday in the Sport Mods, who will win this week?

Pure Stock Preview
Barry Brisker claimed an impressive fifth victory last week in the Pure Stock division. Can Brisker remain perfect on the year and win again this Friday?

WHEELERSBURG, OH-It was an unseasonably cold night at the Southern Ohio Speedway on Friday, May 24th for the “Robinson’s Auto Sales & Parts Memorial Day Championships.” It was another fast racing surface as lap times were only a half second off of the track record.

The nights 25 lap lap Late Model feature started with West Virginia driver Steve Lucas taking the lead. Lucas blasted to the front running right on the cushion while Jackie Boggs settled into second and R. J. Conley third. Early in the race Lucas was able to extend to a six car length lead as Boggs and Conley began to battle side by side for second. Boggs was able to hold off Conley for the position. As the laps wore on, Boggs began to catch back up to Lucas and by lap 14 was right on Lucas’ bumper! The two then battled side by side for the lead for several laps with Boggs making the pass for the lead on lap 19 as the leaders worked through lap traffic. Boggs led the remaining six laps to take the $2,000 feature win with Steve Lucas second, R. J. Conley third, Joe Ramey fourth, and Paul Davis fifth. Lucas won the dash race while Brock Morris won the heat race.

Doug Adkins and Adam Colley battled side by side for the lead at the start of the nights “Robinson’s Trailer Sales 20″ Modified A-Main. The two battled side by side for the lead for the races first two laps with Adkins taking the lead and Jeremy Rayburn passing Colley for the second position. Rayburn moved right up to the bumper of Adkins as those two then battled side by side for the lead! After several laps of battling, Adkins was able to pull away towards the end of the race and come across the checkers to take his second feature win of the season! Jeremy Rayburn finished second with Adam Colley third, Luke Jordan fourth, and Rick Hensley fifth. Adam Colley won the dash race while Luke Jordan won the heat race.

Danny Hamilton took the lead to start the nights “Robinson’s Auto Sales & Parts Sport Mod Championships.” Third place starter Mike Newton immediately moved into the second position and on lap five made the pass for the lead on Hamilton! The two then battled the next three laps with Hamilton taking the lead on lap eight. Just four laps later Newton was involved in a vicious wreck on the frontstretch that resulted in a red flag. Though attended to by the Kings Daughters Medical Transport paramedics, Newton was able to walk out of the car on his own power. When the race resumed, Hamilton led the remaining laps to take his third feature win of the season! Eric Dennison finished second with Colten Wright third, Emily Jordan fourth, and Brianna Robinson fifth. Eric Dennison, Danny Hamilton, and Mike Newton won heat races.

Barry Brisker led every lap of the nights Pure Stock A-Main to take his fifth win of the season. Ray Scott finished in second.

The Southern Ohio Speedway will be back in action this Friday, May 31st for “Fan and Driver Appreciation Night.” Adult general admission is only $10 while adult pit passes are only $22! The racing card will feature Late Models, Modifieds, GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars, and Pure Stocks. Gates open at 4:00 pm with hot laps at 7:30 pm. For more information visit www.southernohiospeedway.com.
